Does Grinding Your Teeth Really Do That Much Damage?
Posted on 5/20/2018 by Dr. Call
When you grind or clench your teeth, it is just putting a little pressure on your teeth. It is no big deal, right? This is totally inaccurate. There is a lot of damage caused when you grind your teeth. The longer this type of activity goes on, the more damage is done, and the damage is cumulative. What you need to do is get some help treating your tooth grinding. You may need repairs done to your teeth on top of wearing an oral appliance to help protect your teeth. What Happens When You Grind Your Teeth When you grind your teeth, the crowns, or chewing surfaces of your teeth, push together and slide back and forth. This can wear down the tips of your teeth, and cause you to lose enamel on those areas of the teeth. This can lead to a lot of sensitivity in your teeth. The enamel can also crack as you grind your teeth back and forth. This can leave the roots of your teeth exposed to temperature changes in your mouth and cause excruciating pain. Plus, it can also allow food and other types of debris to settle in those cracks, leading to cavities and potential tooth infections. Grinding your teeth is nothing to scoff at. If someone tells you that you grind your teeth, it is very important that you get seen as soon as possible. The longer you grind your teeth, the more damage you do. By getting your grinding treated, you are able to protect your teeth from these types of damage. It is often very simple to treat grinding, and it can bring about a lot of relief. Call us today and schedule a time to come in for an exam so we can check and make sure your teeth are healthy and safe....
