Earliest Signs of Gum Disease to Watch For

Posted on 9/10/2018 by Century Dental LLC
Earliest Signs of Gum Disease to Watch ForThe best way to treat gum disease is in its earliest stages. The treatment needed when you spot gum disease early is not very difficult and is usually successful.

The problem is that to treat gum disease early, you have to recognize it. The best way to do that is to know what the early signs of gum disease are.

What a Dental Professional Sees

A common recommendation for good oral health is to see your dental professional twice a year. There are many reasons for this including watching for the signs of early gum disease. Our dental professionals have the tools and the knowledge to spot gum disease before you do.

The tools allow us to probe in place you cannot see. X-rays allow us to see signs of other problems that can lead to gum disease. Even though they have more tools, they are still looking for some of the same things that you can look for.

Signs of Gum Disease

When gum disease progresses, the symptoms become more obvious. Loose teeth and lost teeth are signs that will stand out, but they do not happen in the early stages. Instead, you should watch for these signs.

•  Red or inflamed gums - This may come or go. But it is not something to ignore.
•  Blood in the sink or on toothbrush - Bleeding gums is a sign of a potential problem. The problem is not always serious, but you should take some time to figure out if it is a warning sign.
•  Gum Recession - Your gums will recede with age, but it is also a possible sign of gum disease.
•  Plaque Build Up - Plaque is a sticky film that forms on the teeth. It is the place where bacteria grow. Left untreated, it turns into tartar, which can lead to gum disease.
•  Bad breath - It is not always about the onions you had for dinner. Bad breath is an early sign of trouble for your gums.

The best way to avoid problems with gum disease is by catching it early. The best way to do that is through regular visits to our dental professionals.
