Although it may not seem like it, there are many things you should know about flossing in order to make sure you do a good job of it. Taking a few minutes right now to answer some of your most common questions will help ensure that you make the most of the time you spend flossing.
How Much Floss You Should Use
If you're concerned about being able to properly floss your teeth, you'll want to make sure you have around 18 inches of dental floss available to use. This should be wrapped around the middle fingers on both of your hands, leaving only about an inch in the middle for you to use as you guide the floss between each of the teeth in your mouth.
How Often You Should Floss
Now that you understand how much floss to use and how to use it, make sure that you're flossing your teeth the proper amount of time. For this, dentists recommend that you floss every time you brush your teeth. Since you have 28 teeth, it should take you about two or three minutes to properly floss your mouth. This is time well spent and which you probably have in your day.
However, if you're in a hurry for some reason, make sure that you floss your teeth at least once a day. Make sure that when you do floss you take your time and do a good, thorough job. This is much better than poorly flossing your mouth three times a day.
Additionally, you should know that the best time to floss your teeth is right before you brush them. This way all the food that's lodged between your teeth and gums is removed and your toothbrush will then be able to do a better job at cleaning your mouth properly.
